Jog Falls, Gerosoppa Falls or Joga Falls is the second-highest plunge waterfall in India. Located in Sagara taluk, these segmented falls are a major tourist attraction. They are also called Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi.

Jog falls is created by the Sharavathi river falling from a height of 253m (830 ft), making the second-highest plunge waterfall in india after the Nohkalikai Falls with a height of 335m(1100 ft) in Meghalaya in Karnataka.

Bhatkal is one Karnataka's oldest towns and it is regarded as one of the oldest ports in India. Located in Uttara Kannada, Bhatkal is 130 kilometers away from Karwar and has some lovely beaches. The town is located on NH 17 and is easily accessible via the Konkan railway.

Bhatkal is around 16 Kms from Murudeshwar, is an old port town. A predominantly Muslim town with 42 mosques. It also famous for Jain Chandranath Basadi with its stone tiles and a temple dating back to the Vijaynagar kingdom. The temple is known for animal carvings and intricate work.

Honnavar lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea and on the banks of the river Sharavati, forming an estuary. It lies midway between Panaji and Mangalore


Honnavar or Onore was a notable seaport of British India, in the Uttara Kannada or North Canara district of Karnataka. It is mentioned as a place of trade as early as the 16th century.


Honnavar is Centre place Surrounded by Cities Panaji/Margoa, Hubli,Shimoga, Mangalore in equal Distance of about 180 Kms and Major Towns Karwar. Kundapur,Sirsi,Sagar in equal Distance of 80 Kms. Honnavar has a port that was one of the most important ones on the west coast of India during the time of Marco Polo.   • Colonel HillColonel Hill is an place of interest in Honnavar. It is a 30-meter tall column on the top of a hillock by the side of N-H 17. This column was installed in memory of Colonel Hill on 20 January 1845. It was set up by the 14th Madras Native Infantry at the instance of the East India Company in honor of Col. Hill who died at Gersoppa while commanding the Mysore Division.

  • Kasarkod beach- Kasarkod beach is a tourist attraction of Honnavar. It is about 2 km from Honnavar. This beautiful sandy beach is about 5 km long. The waves, golden sand top and the enchanting scenic beauty attract thousands of tourists every day.

  • Basavaraja Durga- Basavaraja Durga is a fortified spot is an 19 hectare island in the Arabian Sea. It is 3 km from the Sharavathi Sea Mouth and can be reached by boat. The fort was constructed during the Vijayanagara rule. In 1690, the Keladi ruler Shivappa Nayak captured it and named it Basavarajadurga in memory of the Keladi Prince Basavaraja.

  • Venkatarama Temple- Venkatarama Temple is a temple famous for its annual Rath Yatra on the occasion of Ramnavami. The event attracts thousands from all the neighbouring towns and villages.

How to reach Honnavar-


By Train- Konkan Railway line passes through Honnavar and has a station at Karki, which is about 5 km from the centre of the town. Konkan Railway's longest bridge is 2.065 km in length and is in Honnavar over Sharavati River.

There is also a proposal to connect Honnavar and Talguppa in Shimoga district by a new railway line, which will be a shorter alternate rail route between Mumbai and southern India.

By Air- The nearest airport is Mangalore International Airport.

By Bus- There are regular bus services from Bangalore and other places to Honnavar.

Honnemaradu (a place of golden sand) is a tourist place situated on the back waters of River Sharavathi. It is in Shimoga district, Karnataka about 15 km from Sagara on the way to Jog Falls, 12 km from Talaguppa and 392 km from Bangalore. Canoeing: A canoe is a two seater, open decked boat that demands both balance and coordination. Having had a basic explanation of paddling strokes by the volunteers, one can experiment with its maneuverability and navigational finesse.

Kayaking: A kayak is a small, narrow single seated boat primarily designed to be manually propelled by means of a double-bladed paddle. An individual’s concentration and technique make for a challenging undertaking.

Windsurfing: Windsurfing is the most demanding of aqua sports offered at Honnemaradu. It requires boat balance, control of the sail and an understanding of the winds. It tests strength and stamina and is intended for people who opt for bigger challenges than those provided by boating.

  • By Road. Shimoga is 274 km from Bangalore. Take a bus from B'lore to Shimoga and another bus to Talaguppa from Shimoga. Taxi service plies one from Talaguppa to Honnemaradu. Taxi and Jeeps can also be hired from Shimoga to Honnemaradu.

  • By Train. Take a train from B'lore to Shimoga. Travel by the famous Rail bus from Shimoga to Talaguppa takes about 3 hours. Taxi service plies one from Talaguppa to Honnemaradu. It is about 40 minutes drive between Talaguppa and Honnemaradu. Sagar is the town nearest to Talaguppa.

Here we are introducing the city ‘Sagara’ near Karnataka.
Sagara is a city located in the indian state of Karnataka and it is also a sub divisional and a taluk headquarters. Located in the Western Ghats range, it is known for its proximity to Jog Falls and to the historical places of IkkeriKeladi and Varadamoola. The river Varada  originates near Sagara. Sagara subdivision consists of Sagara, Soraba, Hosanagara and Shikaripur taluks.

Sagara derives its name from Sadashiva Sagar, which is a lake. Sadashiva Nayaka, ruler of Keladi dynasty built a lake in betweenKeladi and Ikkeri. Sadashiva Sagar is now called Ganapathi Kere (Ganapathi Lake). It is a subdivisional headquarters headed by a subdivisional magistrate.

How to reach

By Road-
From the state capital Bangalore, Sagara can be reached by road through NH-206. (via Tumkur, Arsikere, Kadur, Tarikere,and Shivamogga). Sagara is around 360 km (224 mi) by road from Bangalore. Sagara is well connected by road with Shimoga, Bangalore, Mangalore, Hubli, Haveri, Sirsi, Shikaripur, Soraba, Hirekerur, Hanagal, Karwar, Belgaum, Ranebennur, Honnali, Davanagere, Hosanagar, Udupi, Honnavar, Bhatkal, and other major cities.

By Railway-
Sagara has its own railway station. The train station is known as Sagar Jambagaru and there are trains that connect Sagara with Bangalore and Mysore.

By Air-
The nearest airport is Hubli Airport, which is about 159 km from Sagara.

 

Tourism

The world famous Jog Falls is in Sagar taluk. It is approximately 30 km by National Highway 206.
Jog Falls is created by the Sharavathi River falling from a height of 253 m (830 ft), making it the second-highest plunge waterfall in India after the Nohkalikai Falls with a height of 335 m (1100 ft) in Meghalaya. Sharavati, a river which rises at Ambutirtha, next to Nonabur, in the Thirthahalli taluk and takes the northwesterly course by Fatte petta, receives the Haridravati on the right below Pattaguppe and the Yenne Hole on the left above Barangi. On arriving at the frontier it bends to the west, precipitates itself down the Falls of Gersoppa, and passes that village (properly Geru-Sappe), which is some 29 kilometres distant, discharging into the sea at Honnavar in North Kanara. Honnemaradu is situated on the banks of the backwaters of the Sharavati river. Honnemardu is a small village perched on the hills that overlook the Linganamakki Reservoir. The reservoir is also known as Honnemardu after the village. In the middle of this huge water body there is a small island that attracts campers. In addition to the adventure activities, Honnemardu is a birdwatchers paradise and one can spend endless hours watching and trying to identify the large variety of birds and butterflies. Holebaagilu-
Holebaagilu is situated on the banks of the Sharavati River about 30 km from Sagar. One has to take a diversion from B. H. Road towards Ikkeri Road to get there. The Sharavati backwaters of Linganamakki dam has submerged acres of land. It is a place of natural beauty. It is in Kolur Grama Panchayat limits. One has to take a flatboat to get across the backwaters to reach the other side where Sigandooru is.

Sharavati Wildlife Sanctuary is in Sagar Taluk, Karnataka. It is 350 km from Bangalore. Located near Jog Falls, the sanctuary covers the Sharavati Valley Region, near the western border of Karnataka. It is spread over an area of 431 km. The sanctuary is nourished by the Sharavati River. Linganamakki reservoir spread over an area of 128.7 km is a part of this sanctuary.


Linganamakki dam is built across the Sharavathi river and is 6 km from Jog Falls in Sagara taluk. It is the main feeder reservoir for the Mahatma Gandhi hydro-electric project. It has two power generating units of 27.5 MW


Dabbe Falls is located near Hosagadde in Sagar taluk. On the road from Sagara to Bhatkal, Hosagadde lies about 20 km from the town of Kargal. From Hosagadde a walk of 6–8 km into the forest leads to Dabbe Falls.


The Marikamba Temple is located in Sagara City, in the Indian state of Karnataka. It features the image of the goddess Marikamba, a form of Durga or Parvati. The temple was built in the center of the city during the reign of Venkatappa Nayak who ruled over Keladi and Ikkeri kingdom during the 16th century. Marikamba was the family deity of the Nayaka dynasty.

A Shiva temple of historical importance is located 6 km from the city. One has to take a diversion at Sorab Road. There is a museum containing old manuscripts written during the Keladi dynasty.

Sigandur is a small village of Sagar taluk, Shimoga district, Karnataka, India. The village is surrounded by the Sharavathi River. The main attraction of Sigandur is Chowdeshwari Temple. Sigandur is about 40 km from its taluk headquarters, Sagara town. Sigandur was cut off from Sagar once reservoir on Sharavathi River was constructed. 2 barges provide connectivity across the water.


Varadapura (Varadahalli/Vaddalli)-
This place is 6 km from the city where one has to take a diversion from Jog Road soon after the end of the city limits. It is famous for the samadhi of His Holiness Sri Sridhara Swami who was among the great saints of 20th century.

This place is of historic importance due to the presence of a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.Ikkeri Temple is situated in Sagara taluk about 6 km to the south of Sagara. The word Ikkeri in Kannada means "Two Streets". It was, from about 1560 to 1640 AD, the capital of the Keladi chiefs, afterwards removed to Bednur. Ikkeri continued, however to be the nominal capital, the Rajas were called by its name, and the coins were called Ikkeri Pagodas and Fanams, although, if fact, the mint was removed. 


Kalasi-
This is another historically important place with a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is 8 km from the city and one has to travel along Sorab Road for 6 km and take a diversion.

Varadamoola-
Varadamoola is 6 km from Sagara City. River Varada originates at this place. Varada flows through the town of Banavasi before joining Tungabhadra.

Shettisara-
This is a place where had temples of Shani Lord & Laxminarayana Temple.. Special is, in Shanashewara Temple God will come on Human body.
